Review: NyteBeauti by. Kristin Roisin

The Blurb...

The epic journey of one woman's search for identity, belonging, and love.

When Desta awakens each evening, all she knows is that unquenchable hunger, and a familiar pair of gray eyes. Aside from that, she doesn't remember anything... yet.

It doesn't take long, before she finds herself thrust into the adventure of a lifetime (or several, as the case may be) as she dodges danger, experiences heartbreak, and ultimately, discovers herself, and true love.

Review:

I received this book from the author, and was excited to read it. This is Ms. Roisin's first published novel, and it was a very good read.

Desta awakens every night to a terrible painful hunger, and no memory why or how she has become what she is. All Desta remembers is a pair of grey eyes that make her feel safe. Desta is drawn to the same tavern every night, and she doesn't know why. She is sure someone is following her and her life is in danger. One night at the tavern Desta meets Cyrus, a hunter with a secret of his own, he attempts to take Desta's life, but realizes she is innocent and only wants to protect her. Then Desta runs into a man with familiar grey eyes, but she has no memory of him, and is afraid he is the one after her, so she runs from him.

Logan has been searching for Desta for over two hundred years, since the night he saved her from her abusive father and attempted to bring her over. The process was interrupted, and all he was able to grant her was immortality before she was taken from him. All he wants to do is protect her, and help her remember who she is. He's hurt and saddened that she doesn't remember who he is, and he recognizes that he will have to be patient and slow with her as she regains her former memories. Logan finally finds Desta again, and brings her to his home, and begins the process of helping her remember. As Desta remembers her past, she remembers the important role that Logan plays in it. She unconsciously looks up to him for guidance and protection even as she is falling in love with Cyrus. Cyrus doesn't trust Logan, but he understands to have Desta in his life he will have to get along with him.

Logan doesn't trust Cyrus, but his love for Desta causes him to accept Cyrus in her life. Logan knows he has to stay close to Desta to keep her safe, because whoever took her from him is still out there. Worse Cyrus's brothers and fellow hunters are after her too..

This story was epic in the sense that Desta experiences tragic lost and heartbreak, but she is stronger then even she knows and she survives it. I love that her character was unwittingly strong, but also very vulnerable. My heart ached for her tragedies and rejoiced in her triumphs. I loved Logan's character he was the perfect male hero. He loved Desta from the moment he saw her, and even after he searched for her for two hundred years his only mission is to make her happy. This was so endearing to me, because even though he was in love with her, he accepted that she wanted another and agreed for her sake. I liked Cyrus's character in the beginning, but I found him weak towards the end of the book. The secondary characters Alex and Morrigan were memorable and I really liked there loyalty towards Desta and Logan. Morrigan is a sexy Irish warrior woman Vampire, and Alex was a magic wielding vampire, and they did there parts in the book justice. They showed true friendship and courage. I would be interested to see what Ms. Roisin does with there characters in future novels.

All in all this was a very good read. There were a few parts throughout the book where I was confused, but the story flowed well together. I almost tore my hair out wanting
Desta to recognize Logan as her true love, but it had to happen at her own pace. This book also had a few unexpected twist that I was not prepared for at all, but they made the story all the more interesting.

If you want to read an epic love story that spans over three hundred years, and takes you on a emotional ride that will leave you feeling uplifted in the end. I recommend this book for you.

Review of NyteBeauti by Kristin Roisin

I've always been a fan of vampire books but most of them have the same general storyline...however NyteBeauti takes you deep into a world of fantasy where anything is possible. It is unlike any vampire book I've read with some unique twists that I found very refreshing. I couldn't stop reading.

I give it a four and a half stars. ****1/2

*Small spoiler Alert*

NyteBeauti by Kristin Roisin was a fantastic read. A great plot with enthralling characters, you will be anxious to find out what Desta must endure next.

Desta awakens with no memories of her past. Each night the only thing she knows is an unexplainable hunger. Her memories show men with evil eyes and it only causes her an increased sense of fear with each remembering.

Lucky enough to have found a sanctuary in the basement of a church, a priest offers her a wine that helps to quench her hunger. Each night after her meal, she wanders out into the night, hoping to find the answers to her past.

She finds herself at the same tavern each night, and is surprised that it offers her a sense of safety. She ventures to the back of the tavern where she finds a beautiful lake, which gives her a sense of peace. She realizes it is the lake they call "Vampire Lake". She remembers the tale that a great priest blessed the lake and it was where many of the vampire kind, her kind, would meet their demise.

Her thoughts are suddenly interrupted when a approaches her from her behind telling her that all of her kind should be dead. Startled at first, she slowly uses her finger to remove the sword at her throat. The problem is this vampire slayer feels a strong connection to her, and instantly resolves not to kill her, but protect her.

Sensing a trust in Cyrus, the slayer, she tells of her memories. He swears to keep her safe, and with each night her search continues. That is until one night, she meets a pair of the eyes from her memories.

Scared and without thinking, she runs away. She finds Cyrus runs into Cyrus and tells him of her encounter. He takes her to a safe place where they sleep until dusk.

At dusk she ventures out again, only to find herself in a very compromised situation. Beaten and near death, Logan saves her. Is this the first time her and Logan have met? As time goes on you will learn that Logan is actually her maker, without me giving too much away.

Roisin did a fantastic job with this title. NyteBeauti has the perfect plot, with a lot of the vampire lore we are used to with some fantastic originality. Her characters are ones that you will find yourself loving one and angry with the other. I especially liked Morrigan. She is a feisty Irish woman with a definite boldness you are sure to fall in love with. I do hope to see much more of Kristin Roisin.

I give NyteBeauti **** (4) Stars, BK Walker. http://bkwalkerbooks.weebly.com

The Next Wave Begins!

Local area book signings are in the works! I'm working with an incredible guy who is helping me put together a large number of local area book readings and signings, to help get my book noticed. I am so excited to be entering this phase of publication. It's still very much like a dream. Very surreal.

I'll keep you posted!

HOLY.COW!

My goodness but that was fast!

I SWEAR, the email I read just two days ago said, "As early as a few weeks." So imagine my utter shock and disbelief when I opened an email entitled "Surprise!" from PA, and read,

"Surprise! Today we are preparing to ship to you a free copy of NyteBeauti. You should expect it on your doorstep before too long, because the book is now ready for release! [...] This is an important moment in an author's life. To see your own book for the very first time is an unforgettable and unique experience, one that on behalf of all of us at PublishAmerica we wholeheartedly congratulate you on. Many authors tell us that they make it a day of celebration, befitting a life-long dream that has come true. We hope that you do, too! [...] And now, hang out the flag. Today is the day you can really say, "I am now a published author!" Congratulations!"

Before I continue I would very much like to thank everyone who has supported me, encouraged me, and walked with me on this journey. I am truly, and deeply touched that so many of you jumped on this roller coaster ride with me, and have stayed on throughout the process.

For now, there isn't much news about when, or where, the book will be released, into hardcopy for bookstores, but you CAN order a copy from the publisher's online bookstore. Just click the bookcover below.

We have gone to print!

Yes, it's official! As of May 19th, the book that started out as a half a dozen college width, spiral bound notebooks, is on it's way to the printing press, where it will take on a whole new look. The 'hobby' that I spoke of in passing, the accomplishment that was mine alone to cherish, has no officially become a published piece of work, for the world to read, love, and critique.

Emotions are all over the place. On one hand, I'm SO proud, and ridiculously, over the top happy. On the other, I'm a nervous wreck. Until now, I could pick and chose who read my words. And make sure that those who did, would always be kind. Now, I no longer have that say. Anyone willing to order the book *when it's officially released* can pick up a copy and have their way with it.

Desta used to be MY character. Her image was mine alone to manipulate and mold, in the fashion that I saw fit. Now, she will become the main image, that everyone will associate with NyteBeauti, and image will no longer be mine to play with. Her adventures, and her life, were mine to enjoy. And now, her actions, her motives, her very nature, will be fodder for everyone to discuss, much the same as I have sat around the reading table, discussing why Acheron did the things he did, or why Frodo allowed himself to be sucked into a journey he wasn't prepared for. What sort of things will be said of my Sweet Desta? With people be kind? Or will people have no use for her emotional baggage? I suppose, the only thing I can do at this point... is just wait and see.

We're on our way!!

Final draft, photos, cover art, releases, story synopsis, and the mailing list have all been sent out! Soon, we will leave the pre-production stage... and enter the [dun dun duunnnnnn] Production stage! We are on our way!!!

The photo shoot went GREAT, and we got some really great shots! I'm really happy with them, and I'm getting a lot of positive feedback about the photos, as well. For your enjoyment, here are the three finished versions, that we've chosen.

Photo Shoot!

That's right! Things are moving at the speed of light!!! Sunday, I'm scheduled for a photo shoot, to start getting ready for promotional and marketing ads, banners, posters and the like, plus, my publisher wants to put one (*GASP*) on the back of the book! I'm... a little nervous about that. I don't want MY image... to get in the way of the image I tried to paint of Desta, or even Morrigan.

Should be fun though, if not a bit nerve wracking. It's just two days away, and I still have NO IDEA what I should wear... how I should do my hair... etc. etc.

I'll be sure to keep you posted, and to let you know how it goes!

"NyteBeauti" is Official!! (My first Blog Post!)

That's right! You read it right! The contract is signed, and we are officially on our way to print! We have now entered the "Pre-production" phase of the book, and it's starting to look like the release will be in, or around, six months from now, which gives us a late Fall/Early Winter release. Just in time for Christmas! Haha!

It's been a long 6 years. But to finally see it come to fruition, has been one of the greatest pleasures of my life. Of course, my kids, and my husband are. But this is such a personal achievement. I can't even begin to explain it. It's on such a personal level, so completely different from anything else. Even Childbirth, while I will always consider that one of my greatest, is completely different from this. I shared that with my family. It wasn't mine, alone.

This book though.... is MINE. No one held my hand through it. No one offered me pain meds when it got tough. No one picked up the pencil for me and wrote a chapter here or there. No one pushed a button, and turn off the writer's block when it happened. It was ME. Is that to say I didn't have inspiration? Or support? Absolutely not. I did. TONS of each. But what it comes down to is this. The story. The time. The effort it took to put it on paper, and transfer to digital media. To track down, research and find a reputable publisher, and bring us to this point.... That alone is MY achievement. And now, I can sit back, and watch as those who SUPPORTED me and INSPIRED me through the process remain ever so happy for me, and those who doubted, and said I couldn't, or even shouldn't do it, race to catch up.

As I said on my Fan Page... I will remember those who supported me.
